HOCL is the molecule taking the skincare industry by storm. In its pure form, HOCL is undoubtedly incredible, with powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
While the science of HOCL is deceptively simple, it is at the same time highly complex. The issue at hand is how to produce STABLE and PURE HOCL. Thus, some products on the market sold as HOCl or electrolysed water are often anything but that!
Research studies have demonstrated that many of the products marketed as HOCL are contaminated with sodium hypochlorite (bleach) which decay rapidly or they are very weak solutions that lack efficacy. Worryingly, others are very potent combinations of HOCL and bleach with concentrations more than those authorised and in some cases, up to 5000ppm that are not safe to use around people. Some products also don’t have the correct guidance and instructions. For instance, they are sold in white or clear bottles which allows UV light in. This will destroy the active molecule (if it is hypochlorous), thereby significantly reducing shelf life to less than three months.
When developed intelligently and with scientific rigor, HOCL can be rendered safe and stable. We are proud that our Eumel Soothing Scalp Spray is manufactured by a company led by a team of scientists who have developed the only available technology that produces completely stable, pure HOCl at a neutral pH of 7.2 and at a parts-per-million concentration of 150-200ppm. This goldilocks zone gives the most optimum range for purity, efficacy, safety and stability, providing 12 months’ shelf-life. This HOCL is already widely used in many industries, including the dental and the food industry. Dr Dadzie, our expert Dermatologist, having reviewed the scientific data on this HOCL has re—purposed it for the human scalp, given its powerful properties and safety record.
Our Eumel Soothing Scalp Spray is also sold in black HDPE bottles. This ensures that the HOCL in our product is not affected by UV, heat or agitation. Each product has a batch number to give traceability, an expiry date and clear instructions on the label advising to store away from direct sunlight.
